A nice Surprise!

Posted in Music with tags , , on 28/11/2010 by arthur1977

I was talking to a co-worker last week and he happened to mention that a new Bad Religion album was being released on Tuesday.  I have not picked up any new music recently so on my next day off I headed out to the local HMV to looked over what they had to offer.  I ended up picking up 4 new albums: Bad Religion “Dissent of Man”, Rob Zombie “V2: Hellbilly Deleux”, Alexisonfire “Young Cardinals”, and Delerium “Voice”.

Out of all the albums I purchased, I really like Delerium’s Voice album which is an acoustic collection.  I have been a huge fan of the group since they released the Semantic Spaces album back when I was in high school.  The group did a great job remaking all their songs and my wife and I enjoy listening to this album while just relaxing at home.  I have to say it was a very nice surprise because it was only by fluke that I looked in the Delerium folder at the store.

All the other albums I got are also good.  I am currently listening to the Bad Religion album when I am driving and it has a lot of great songs.  The other 2 are on my iPod rotation for playing Transformers online multi-player, its nice having music to get you fired up to kill other players .

Back on Cybertron

Posted in PS3 with tags , on 26/11/2010 by arthur1977

Well with the renovation starting on the basement my gaming computer has been boxed up for a few weeks.  To pass the time I have shifted back to my PS3 and jumped back in to Transformers: War for Cybertron.  I had originally burnt out on Transformers a few months ago trying to complete all the online trophies before the population dwindled and made it harder to get into a conquest and escalation group.

I was frustrated the first time I tried to join in and play some conquest matches. There had been a second map pack released and I kept on getting booted from the rare groups I joined because I did not have it. This turned out to be a  blessing in disguise because I got a great escalation group that made our way though to wave 20 while netted me over 3000 power to bring my closer to the Powermaster! Trophy (16K out of 25K).

Last night I got my first Conquest group and managed to get in about an hour of game time before deciding it was time for bed.  It was a nice surprise to find that they have increased the experience rewarded to taking over a node.  This change alone has boosted my enthusiasm to try and get the last three trophies in this part of the game online, the grind before this change might have driven me batty.

I look forward to getting some more time in this weekend and maybe knock off a trophy or 2 to get me closer to getting the platinum (I still think its a long stretch).  If you are online and plan to play Transformers: WFC look me up, CDN-Dragoon.

Are We Digital Dummies?

Posted in Life with tags , , on 18/11/2010 by arthur1977

I happen to catch the title of tonight’s episode of CBC’s Doc Zone which was “Are We Digital Dummies” and it intrigued me. The hour-long show talked about how our technological environment is changing us and the way we inter react with the people around us.  It brought up a lot of interesting observations and questions about the benefits and drawbacks of being connected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Looking back just a few months its eye-opening how much time I actually spent watching TV, playing video games on my PC and PS3, or just fooling around on my iPod touch.  I really have to be thankful of the birth of my daughter to get my head out of the digital cloud and realize just how great it is simply playing music and not having a hundred things going on in the back ground.  My gaming time is down to about 6-8 hours a week, I watch a lot less TV, and because of that I am being more active and to top it off I have lost 5 pounds! I am not saying that I think computer and video games are a bad thing, I still love them but in moderation.

I think having access to the information highway is very beneficial, we just don’t know the extent of the changes it will have on our society.  I admit I still a digital junkie and I don’t plan to ever give that up but I do understand that you have to unplug and detox, you know, realize the world is made up of more than pixels and code.

Exploring Guild Wars

Who though kids would take up so much of your time.

Its been amazing watching my daughter over the last 5 months, but I have now come to realize how much of an impact she has on my free time.

I plan to keep blogging and playing video games just not at the pace I was use to before becoming a father.

That is also what made Tuesday so unique, I got to play Guild Wars for about 7 hours!  I logged on in the early afternoon and grouped up with a Rt/Mo named X Silent Ghost I, he was kind enough to run me through a couple of the early missions that I yet to try (starting at Fort Ranik and making it all the way to the Nolani Academy!).

Later on that night after my ladies went to bed I logged back on.  For the first few hours I just wandered around doing any quest I could get my hands on to unlock new skills and gain experience.  After I got my fill of questing I zoned to Ascalon City looking for a runner to take me to Loin’s Arch.  It took a little bit of time to actually find a runner but a nice fellow by the name of Ben Charles said he planned to do a run for 2K and I agreed to go (I luckily had 2039g on me!).  We had another player along for the ride with us and besides hitting a few snags we made it to LA in relatively one piece.

My main reason for wanting to make it to Lion’s Arch was to forge in to the Eye of the North expansion to acquire some Hero’s to help me in finishing my Prophecies campaign. I had a great time over the next hour and a half exploring the north and getting to my empty Hall of Monuments. Along the way to the HoM you get three Heroes to help you along on your adventure (Veek (E), Ogden (Mo) and Gwen (Me)), I did not play long enough to get a feel for them but I am looking forward to using them in my next play session.

It was a great night of gaming and I hope I have more like it in the future.  Until then I am more than happy to spend time with my little girl and log on for an hour here and there.

5 Months of Parenting :)

Posted in Life with tags on 08/11/2010 by arthur1977

It’s crazy to think that its been only 5 months since the birth of my Daughter!

Its been a wonderful time just watching her grow and start to take notice of everything around her.  There have been troubling times when she decides to scream and keep us up but all the good times make up for all the night with limited sleep.

I am looking forward to the future and cannot wait until she starts crawling and then the fun really begins.
